CPN-Maoist Rolpa panel lends support to Chand

ROLPA, DEC 06 - The Rolpa district committee of the CPN-Maoist has decided to support former party secretary Netra Bikram Chand, following a two-day meeting of the party secretariat that concluded on Saturday. Chand recently broke away from the mother party.
District level cadres and leader of the CPN-Maoist said that they took the decision as Chand’s newly-formed party after breaking from the mother party “is more revolutionary”. Kesha Bahadur
Banthamagar, district coordinator of the CPN-Maoist, said that they would move ahead as per policy to be formulated by Chand-led party. Banthamagar is also a former brigade commander of Maoist’s People Liberation of Army.
Bed Bahadur Buda, secretariat member of the CPN-Maoist, said that they were in dilemma whether to support CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya-led mother party or Chand’s new party. “This decision has ended our dilemma.
Now we will support the Chand-led party as it is revolutionary,” he said, adding that CPN-Maoist leaders and cadres from Thawang, who were supporting Baidya earlier, have agreed to throw their weight behind Chand. Rolpa is the bastion of the decade-long Maoist insurgency.
The Baidya-led party is believed to have mobilised some of its leaders, including central committee member Kumar Shah, to retain party position among party leaders and cadres following the split.
Likewise, the Chand-faction is said to have mobilised newly-formed party’s central members Dhmendra Bastola, Santosh Buda and advisor Nanda Bahadur Buda to woo leaders and cadres of CPN-Maoist.
